The construction probably dates back to 1200 and over the centuries the fortress has undergone many changes.During the Napoleonic rule the building was rebuilt and used as an armory and barracks, and remained so during the Austrian occupation. Between 1923 and 1926 the building was restored and the Clock Tower rebuilt.The Castle Bridge, built in the second half of the fourteenth century with three unequal arches, was destroyed by the Germans during World War II and rebuilt in 1951 using the original stones and bricks salvaged from the bed of the Adige River.Our walk ends here.
